Our Body Remembers
Our body remembers because our cells are a storehouse of old memories
Our bodies need to feel safe and comforted, more than anything else now.
Lately, this card has been coming up a lot.
The BODY card.
There’s divine wisdom in repetition.
It’s really tiring to be a human in these times. Our collective BODY is heaving and struggling through a new birth canal. The confederate-flag waving and storming of the Capitol has evoked centuries of old trauma that live in our bodies. Past trauma of being silenced, terrorized, shamed.
For something to be awakened into remembering, it must be shaken loose. That’s why our nervous systems are on overdrive.
We are releasing before rebirthing.
You don’t need one more new spiritual practice, therapeutic tool, or habit. What you need, and need oodles of, is SELF-NURTURANCE. Our body, our temple in which our Light (Soul) travels, needs to be held and loved.
Your body craves safety and comfort.
Our root chakra (represents safety, security, survival) is being activated by world events. When the root chakra is triggered, what it needs more than anything is COMFORT. Think of a toddler having a meltdown. She doesn’t need a lecture on good behavior; she needs a parent to rub her back, cuddle with her, and shush her anxieties away. It’s no different with us, because our inner child is the one who’s terrified by what’s happening in the world.
Some simple everyday rituals that are helping me:
- Lighting candles at dusk
- Sleeping in
- Snuggling into my most comfy shawls
- Drinking hot tea
- Nature walks
- Reading
- Journaling
- Making soup
- Breath work
- Prayer
- Netflix shows I can lose myself in
Here are some prompts for you to reflect on:
- What feels comforting and nurturing to you?
- How can you bring more of that into your daily life?
- Where do you need to let go of pressure?
We can honor what is without being sucked into it.
We can grieve what is lost and still be present to beauty.
We can walk with fear and not be consumed by it.
If there’s one intention you wish to welcome into your life right now, let it be this: May I love my body and tend to it with gentle care.
We’re all in this together. Everything you do for yourself, you do for all of humanity.
