Do You Struggle With Change?

April 24, 2018 was a milestone date for me and my family. We arrived in the U.S. on that date, ten years ago, carrying six suitcases and hearts full of dreams.

I was planning to find a position to teach ESL.

My daughter was getting ready to step into an American high school.

My husband was taking up a new position in Chicago.

But, of course, the universe had its own plans.

Ten days after we moved into our first apartment in northwest Chicago, we received news from India that my mother had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Talk about change layered over change.

I was in a foreign country. I didn’t know anyone. I didn’t know how to drive. The economy was tanking, so I struggled to find a job and ended up taking a part-time position at a retirement community. I knew nothing about the elderly and their ways of life in the western world. And in the middle of all this, my mother in India was battling a terminal illness.

Those of you who have read my transformational memoir Losing Amma, Finding Home: A Memoir About Love, Loss and Life’s Detours know how my story unfolded and how it brought me to be doing the work I do today.

Change is hard.
Change is scary.
Change makes us fight life and demand that it go back to the way it used to be.

This is why I love conversations about change. And I am teaching a free webinar titled HOW TO STAY IN CONTROL THROUGH BIG LIFE CHANGES.
